A school of thought nowadays holds that women should prioritize raising children above focusing on their career as they are well-versed in childcare, compared to men. While acknowledging the benefits of this belief, I believe that the drawbacks of this statement are even more pronounced.
Proponents of this belief often state that females are more likely to be more meticulous, careful and softer due to their gender’s biological features. This is really important to raise a child, which always requires carefulness and other similar personalities to interact with such sensitive age groups. As well as this, during their pregnancy’s period, women have to go through many mental and physical pains, leading to a deeper mean of love toward their child. Therefore, they are often perceived to be better at childcare and they should spend time raising children.
However, I reckon that women should not be encouraged to focus less on their working life. Chief of this is that women have the right to freely follow their career aspirations, as much as how they spend their time and effort to develop themselves and master more skills to prove that they deserve to have occupational achievements which truly reflect their ability. Another reason is that childcare requires equal family responsibilities from parents. Thus, men also need to spend time looking after their child. This is a crucial part in having a family since the burden of family responsibilities should not be counted only on women.
In short, although raising children mainly by women helps a lot in providing children, especially newborns to be looked after carefully, this should be a responsibility of both women and men as people have the right to focus on their career freely and family duties are not about women.
