In modern day employment, it is commonly known that working weeks are long. However, one can observe the perspective that they should be shortened. I totally agree with this idea, having plausible reasons for it.
Firstly, long working hours might foster a negative effect to the employees, such as feeling of burnout, increased stress and frustration, and loss of focus, what in further future may hurt the productivity. Accordingly, abbreviated work week is a proper thing to be done by employers to maintain the motivation for workers. Moreover, they get more done when they work fewer hours, and they are also more productive whilst feeling cheerfulness. Secondly, should it be mentioned that a shorter work week can make an organization more appealing and enhance employee retention rates, especially in industries where workers are in high demand, such as marketing or tech. Based on this, company would witness the potential reductions in unemployment and get a respectful reputation. Having reduced work hours can significantly improve workman’s overall well-being and result in lower stress levels. This help them avoid drastic major health issues in life. Furthermore, lower workload free up their time to pursue physically active and mentally stimulating activities.
To sum it up, excess workload can result in human performance problems such as errors. However, should it also be noticed that underload can also lead to boredom, loss of situational awareness, and lack of alertness. Beyond this, personally, I consider that benefits of reduced work hours far outweigh the drawbacks.
