I am honoured to support Mr Sam Aakash A for Master’s in Mechanical Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing from University of New South Wales (UNSW). As Professor and Head of the Production Technology Department at Anna University, I guided Sam through four impactful years, observing his determination to face challenges, inquisitive intellect in advancing sustainable manufacturing research, and innovative leadership in student projects. His creative thinking and steadfast responsibility enable him to excel in your program and foster significant change. Sam is a remarkable applicant, distinctly prepared to thrive at UNSW.
Sam’s experience demonstrates the strength of perseverance and flexibility. I remember the third semester when a distressing diagnosis of ulcer and other allied problems caused him to struggle with profound physical and emotional distress. I observed him manage hospital visits and tiring treatments, but he never let his situation lessen his academic motivation. Throughout this time, he signed up for my rigorous CAD course later Design, a topic demanding careful attention to detail. Despite his health struggles, Sam frequently remained after class to seek clarification on concepts, and this effort led him to score well in the subject.
Sam’s innovative thinking and leadership are evident in his projects. As the primary coordinator of the Pistoboltz National Symposium, he obtained funding by crafting innovative proposals that showcased relationships between academia and industry. Additionally, he designed and carried out a Shark Tank-style event from 2022-2025, promoting an entrepreneurial mindset among peers. His tactical method included careful planning, assignment of tasks, and teamwork abilities essential for leadership positions. These initiatives highlight his skill in converting abstract concepts into practical solutions.
A fundamental aspect of Sam’s character is his honesty and responsibility. Throughout group projects, he maintained ethical principles, promoting transparency in decisions and fair distribution of tasks. For instance, while guiding a team to create a sustainable energy model with SolidWorks and ANSYS, he accepted responsibility for challenges, adjusted strategies, and produced outcomes surpassing expectations. His technical dexterities in Python, data science, and AI enhance his ability to innovate even more. Aside from academics, Sam’s inspiring talks at NGO gatherings explain his compassion and dedication to improving society.
Sam Aakash represents the unique combination of technical skill, principled leadership, and forward-thinking vision that the UNSW aims for. His ability to bounce back from challenges and his talent for motivating teams and managing projects equip him to excel in leadership positions and eventually create a firm with worldwide significance.
