Ways of transportation have evolved in many ways in recent years. People often chooses private means of travel over public transport. A government should definitely develop public transportation service and provide it to general public at a lower price.
Nowadays, public buses and trains are not well maintained due to which civilians mostly prefer travelling via their own car or bike, causing large amount of pollution. People prefer cleaner and fast means of travel. If government improve metro service by allocating higher budget to transport department, a faster and tidier means of public transport could become available to locals. More and more people will select public transport due to better service, which will reduce use of personal vehicles and help in mitigating pollution. For example, once upon a time, a most polluted city Delhi is now has best air quality index in the world, because Delhi government prioritized developing metro across the city.
The preference of using private vehicles over public is main contributing factor to transport pollution. This is because of higher cost of public transport. With advent of technology, manufactures are producing car at cheaper rate than before. People prefer driving their own car rather than travelling in public transport due to pricing. For instant, a survey shows that 80% population prefer private transport over public due to higher cost.
In conclusion, higher usage of personal vehicles is major reason of transport pollution. This can be easily reduced by developing public transport through government funding and by reducing ticket prices of trains and metro.
