Transportation industry contribute greatly in the air pollution. Various environmental measures have been employed to both reduce and eradicate the emissions from different sources. Public transport has been considered as amongst the way that reduces harmful emissions. Although a number of individuals ascertain that government interventions in the industry is not feasible, but I think otherwise. Majority of individuals depend on the public transport in their daily commute. But also, government investments and subsidies influence the community to rely heavily on the public transport.
First and foremost, the public buses take huge number of passengers at once compared to private vehicles. Therefore, improving the reliability, efficiency and efficacy of the public transportation system assures the extremely low air pollution, as several people might park their private cars for community buses. Example, in Tanzania government has constructed Rapid Transportation Buses to both serve the citizens and complement the climate change agenda.
Furthermore, the government investment in the infrastructures and improvement of system satisfies the requirement of their respective people. It is the duty of the state to ensure that the prosperity of the country and its people. So, the reliable transport relieves anxiety and depression to people caused by challenging transport means. Most people wake up early in the morning to work and they return home late due to the vehicle unavailability.
Although some people argued that it is unnecessary for the state to participate in improving the transportation system as there are several and extremely important aspects of concern such as heath and education. Nevertheless, it is vital to address challenges that will severely devastate future generations.
In conclusion, government commitment in the public transport improvement is something to be promoted throughout the global. It should be incorporated in every country policy as air pollution and climate change is dangerously and at it peak. Both governments, private sector and community should join forces to combat their impacts.
