Carbon emission from personal vehicles is one of the largest contributors to environmental pollution. Thus, governments invest in shared transportation skeems to encourage people to use buses and trains. Even though, there are people who migh disagree with this approach, I believe this is an effective way of persuading the public to limit their carbon footprint.
The current public transport system is not perfect. For the most part, It has hygine and security issues that discourage people from using it, meaning the busses and trains in most of the metropolitant areas of the world are not clean, and there are a lot of crimes that are commited on passengers who use these services. Consequently, people are avoiding them, even though they are cheaper than using individual cars. For instance, trains in New York are known to be dangerous especially at night, so people prefer using other alternatives.
With that being said, if government investment for these systems is increased, most of the problems that exist today can be resolved by addressing them once at a time. The fund from the investment can be used to improve the cleanliness of the bus and tran system as well as upgrade security by hiring officers to work in the subways and at bus stations.
In conclusion, while I acknowledge the current problems of public transportation, I strongly believe that investing in them will have a significant impact on reducing pollution that is generated from personal car use, especially in urban areas of a country.
