It is believed by some people that governments should spend an enormous amount of money on renovations of old buildings in large cities. However, others believe that this money can be better spent on building new houses and developing roads. I firmly agree that money should be spent on new buildings than renovating old buildings but to a certain level. This essay discusses about both advantages and disadvantages and will lead to conclusion.
To commence with, large sum of money can be spent on renovating historical buildings by the government. This is because old sculptures and monuments attract tourists who contributes to the economy through increased revenues and create job opportunities for the local people with in the country. For instance, Taj Mahal in India, an old monument was renovated by the government recently as it is a most popular tourist place. Another instance, remote schools can be renovated by the officials as this will help children in rural areas to go to schools and need not travel kilometers to reach there.
However, spending money on old houses is not worth as these buildings would soon collapse in the future and people living in those buildings are not safe. Instead government can construct new houses for the poor people. Further to that constructing roads with proper quality of infrastructures prevents many road accidents.
Overall, government should spend money wisely on buildings that bring return on investment. Moreover it should consider the safety of people living there. It is also people’s responsibility to take care of the public properties by not littering around or causing damage to them. Authorities should always consider publics opinion before making any move.
