While old buildings and places are considered as national tresure of the country, certain individuals argue that the money spent on renovations of old buildings can be better spent on new houses and developing roads. I partially agree with this view.
Firstly, the development of the city is better for the lifestyle of people living there. Transportation of daily basic need goods and material is essential for the people. For instance, few old buildings in Bhaktapur demolished by the earthquake are yet to be reconstrucuted, this is due to the lack of material supply from other areas due to road conditions.
On the other hand, old buildings and heritage are essential for tourist attraction. A nation benefits by the visiting travellers from overseas and their spending in the city. For exmaple, according to a research by the Nepal Government, the main source income of Nepal solely came from travellers visiting from overseas and their spending in Nepal. Furthermore, this boosts the economy of the country. Maintaing old monuments are essential for attracting tourists.
In conclusion, old buildings are a top priority to maintain as they have better return on investment than of developeing new houses and roads. The required amount of budget allocated should be done to renovate old buildings, sites and as well as for developing new infrastructure.
