Many people believe that reading books is more helpful with developing imagination and acquiring better language skills, than watching television. In my opinion, reading is an important tool, that makes people creative and well-educated.
To begin with, reading makes brain cells work more. While eyes are looking at the text, our brain not only accepts the information, but also recreates it into pictures, trying to make the incoming signal easier to understand. Thus, when reading, people imagine the way the main characters of the book look and behave. It is important to mention, that many doctors advice children to read more books in order to develop their imagination skills. According to the research, children, who used to read books in the primary school, show themselves in a more imaginative, creative way in later education than those who did not read.
What is more, reading is well known to be useful for those who want to improve their language skills. The main reason for that is the use of proper language in books and newspapers with a right sentence structure and appropriate vocabulary. Reading, people can understand how specific word can be used or what grammar sounds more natural. For example, while learning a new language, students are advised to read more books or articles in order to understand the grammatical and lexical structure in the sentences better.
All in all, reading is a great instrument that helps not only children, but also grown-ups to develop their imagination and improve language skills.
