It is very controversial that oil resources will eventually run out. Therefore, a lot of individuals have been arguing that governments and companies must spend money on finding alternative sources, such as wind and solar power, because it is more rational. In my opinion, a balance between oil exploitation and developing technology for renewable energy must be implemented, instead of excessive dependence on oil.
On the one hand, oil, throughout decades, has proved its efficiency in many sectors, including power, transportation, and even agriculture, which can be inconvenient for companies to search for other sources that can replace it. Moreover, governments have already spent billions of dollars on exploiting oil and building factories to create fuel and plastic, so a sudden change to using other resources can lead to economic consequences. However, oil is not sustainable, and total dependence on it can be irrational. Also, oil is very detrimental to the environment, so its negative effects are inevitable in the long term, and an alternative solution must be conducted gradually.
On the other hand, searching for a new resource can be very helpful and logical. Investing in sustainable energy that can last forever is a very pragmatic and viable solution. Technology nowadays is very advanced, so companies can rely on the ability to turn energy such as wind and solar into a reliable resource to generate power, and even use them for transportation and agriculture. Furthermore, renewable sources can be more affordable and less harmful to the environment. Ultimately, oil can be replaced by much cleaner and more sustainable energy.
In conclusion, although oil has proved its reliability across decades, it can be replaced with other resources such as wind and solar energy, so I believe governments and corporations must balance their investment between the development of renewable energy and the exploitation of oil.
