Nowadays it is very easy to get anything from anywhere, with technology inventions and interantional imports. One such biggest advantage is food export from various countries.
The feel of having our homecountry food in a foreign city is always satisfying. People living far from their family and home always miss their local cuisine in the abroad. However, the international food shipping has removed this concern for many foreigners in Canada. For instance, when I moved to Peterborough it was very hard for me to find the South Indian food. For the rescue of this, the Canadian supermarkets like Freshco, Walmart has Indian vegetables like Drumstick, ladys finger and various spices. This enabled people to get the taste of their origin, even in this foreign land. Likewise, we can get Chinese, Thai and various other cuisine food through different food delivery apps from restaurants.
On the other hand, this taste also comes with its own drawbacks. In order to preserve the freshness of foreign fruits, less amount of preservatives are used. This in turn may affect the health of international people in the long run. In addition to that, people refrain themselves from trying local cuisine and food products. This will result in poor sales of locally harvested fruits and vegetables. For example, I have been living here in Canada for almost a year, yet I got to know about asparagus only recently. Such local foods are not getting enough popularity and attention that they deserve. Even though these may appear trivial, it is affecting the local farmers and economy in a worst way.
Like a coin, the food import has its own advantages and disadvantages. Personally I feel, eating the locally available food products will be beneficial to both the citizens and the farmers. The main benefits are fresh delicacies instead of processed food and saved dollars.
