Some individuals believe that primary schools mainly prioritize formal learning. I wholeheartedly agree with this view, as the majority of elementary schools support formal education these days. However, I am convinced that it is extremely crucial to implement more interactive methods of teaching in order to keep children engaged and prevent them from being stressed.
One of the main advantages of informal education is the fact that it efficiently develops children’s interest towards new knowledge. Children aged 4 to 11 tend to love playing different games and seek adventures; also, they do not fully understand the importance of education. Therefore, allowing kids to play as well as learn ensures them to not see studying as a boring activity. To illustrate, Finland is widely known for its minimal homework and extra free time, yet this country still tops the world ratings for the best education system.
Another major benefit of non-formal learning is how it safeguards young people’s mental health because they may be very sensitive to academic pressure. Unfortunately, parents and teachers often demand excellent grades from children without acknowledging their intellectual abilities. Thus, not taking school too seriously helps youngsters to avoid stress and anxiety which is highly important at an early age. For example, adults in many areas yell at students and punish them for a bad performance; although, it ruins trust and self-confidence.
In conclusion, even though formal education may have its own merits, I still side with the opinion that children should enjoy the process of learning by engaging in games.
