Nowadays, many technologies are entering the market, transforming the way we work and making tasks easier and faster than before. Traditional skills and ways of life are also being impacted by the rise of new technology. However, I do not completely agree with the notion that preserving traditional skills and lifestyles is pointless in modern civilization.

New technologies offer numerous advantages, such as increased comfort, the simplification of complex tasks, and time-saving methods for traditional work. Despite these benefits, some traditional practices will always hold an advantage over technological solutions. Certain forms of work simply cannot be replaced by machines. For instance, in Gujarat, the famous ‘Patona’ from Patan city exemplifies this. Patona is a silky fabric created by local women, and what’s remarkable is that it is crafted with intricate stitching techniques. While it may seem like a simple task, the design process is quite complex, often taking 2-3 months to complete a single Patona. Though modern stitching machines can replicate the process, they cannot achieve the same level of smoothness and detail that is characteristic of handcrafted Patona. The exceptional quality of this fabric has earned it worldwide recognition, demonstrating that certain traditional methods produce results that technology cannot replicate.

Moreover, while the modern era offers convenience and simplicity in daily life, there are still many local communities around the world that choose to live with minimal resources. These communities often shun materialism in favor of a more traditional lifestyle. For example, near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in India, there are both identified and unidentified tribes who thrive without modern amenities, deeply valuing their traditional ways of living.

In conclusion, while technology indeed provides significant benefits and comforts to society, traditional skills and ways of life continue to survive, especially among people living in rural and isolated areas. Thus, it is far from pointless to preserve the cultural practices of various communities, as these practices represent a unique and irreplaceable heritage.
