Discussion

Band 7+: You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write at least 250 words. Some people think that competition at work, at school and in daily life is a good thing. Others believe that we should try to cooperate more, rather than competing against each other. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Competition and cooperation are two main approaches to achieving goals in work, education, and daily life. While some people consider competition as a driving force for improvement, others emphasize the importance of cooperation in collective success. Both perspectives have valid points, which I will discuss before sharing my own opinion.

On the one hand, competition can motivate individuals to perform better. In the workplace, for example, healthy competition among employees can encourage people to work better and faster. Similarly, in school, students may want to succeed when they compete academically, leading to higher achievements. In everyday life, competition can inspire people to challenge themselves and reach their full potential. However, extreme competition can create stress and lead to unhealthy relationships, where people focus only on personal success rather than mutual benefit.

On the other hand, cooperation promotes teamwork, which is essential for success in many aspects of life. In schools, group projects teach students to value the work together and respecting different ideas. At work, collaboration often leads to better problem-solving and stronger relationships among colleagues. However, over-dependence on cooperation might discourage people from desire for personal improvement, as some may depend too much on others.

In my opinion, both competition and cooperation are essential, but finding the right balance is key. Competition can help in personal and professional growth, while cooperation ensures that people work together effectively. A balanced approach allows people to sparkle (have no idea if I can say like that) while maintaining positive relationships and contributing to collective success.
