Large amount of people all over the world uses new technological advancements to communicate with others and hear the latest news. I believe that the advantages do outweigh the disadvantages because keeping in touch with your relatives is very important. Even though, there can be some addictive features in these technologies.
On one hand, speaking with people you love is a great expirience. It helps you to socialize, not to lose family connections, and also to feel more welcomed. For example, I live in Spain, but my cousine lives in the US and we really miss each other. We spent huge amount of time toghether, so we were looking forward to continue our communication. Only the social media could help us reach each other, and we chose that variant. Both of us now feel little bit closer to each other; even though, it cannot replace real life interactions.
On the other hand, many of these platforms have different ways of keeping you engaged. While it may seem as a benefit, it often causes addictions and anexiety effects or so called “FOMO”. These apps make you deeply care about other people’s opinion, and minor critisism may really let you down. For instance, only in UK nearly most of people using this utilites face a diverse variety of mental health issues. Although there may be some issues from this, most of them appear only from overindulgence in this activity.
In conclusion, I think that social interactions these platforms bring really outweigh the drawbacks. Your connections with the loved ones have no value, and you should maintain them no matter the circumstances.
