It is a pressing issue that in today’s fast-paced world, celebrities play a vital role in the lives of adolescents who are willing to select them as role models. While some believe that this is an excellent tendency, others, including myself, advocate that popular individuals have more terrible impacts on the younger generation than desirable influences. This essay will outline the reasons in the following paragraphs.
Initially, once young people choose celebrities as ideal people, they start to follow them on various social media and get acquainted with their wealthy lifestyles. As a result, they begin to compare themselves with celebrities’ luxurious lives and are not able to concentrate on their personal and professional goals, making way for mental problems, such as depression and a lack of self-confidence. Moreover, due to these mental issues, they exhibit lower performance in their studies and work; thereby, they do not possess outstanding achievements and careers.
Another main negative impact of this trend is that following celebrities and their regular routines can be appealing to vulnerable members of society. Young people tend to track popular people’s actions and replicate them, as a result of which they may take up certain devastating habits such as drug addiction and excessive smoking, leading to harmful effects on their health and overall well-being. Consequently, they are prone to becoming gradually isolated from society day by day.
In conclusion, I am in favor of the idea that the younger generation should not be drawn into celebrities’ lifestyles and should not select them as perfect individuals. As this tendency contributes to certain physical and mental disorders, such as depression and low self-esteem in adolescents, this is not a significant development.
