There is a view that young demographics are often influenced with their behavior and situations by others of the same.It is called peer pressure. While there are some numerous drawbacks of this phenomenon,it is not without its benefits.
To start, experiencing peer pressure among young people can prove undesirable in several ways. One of the most clear cons is risky behaviour.During adolescence, many teenagers have a burning desire to be accepted by their peer group. As a result, they may start smoking, drinking alcohol, or even breaking rules simply to fit in. They often do these things because they fear being left out or rejected by their friends. One other demerit is that peer pressure can lead to mental health problems such as stress, anxiety, and depression. It is true that constant pressure to fit in with peer groups can also lead to these types of health-related problems among young people. As a result, they may end up having low self esteem and regretting their decisions after being rejected.
Nevertheless, experiencing peer pressure is not negative in all respects. One of the most obvious merits is that it encourages good habits.More clearly, young people tend to follow in their friends footsteps or copy their every day behaviour such as studying regularly, exercising frequently and avoiding harmful habits. As a result, they are more likely to develop self discipline and achieve better academic performance.More willingly, peer pressure can be useful in improving confidence and social skills.Young people who spend time with supportive and friendly peers are more likely to communicate with others and participate in group activities. As a result, they become more confident, develop better interpersonal skills, and build a stronger sense of belonging towards their friends.
In conclusion, downsides of peer pressure are varied, but it does have its plus points.
