In the contemporary society young people are engrossed in mobile phones and they utilize them too much. Some people argue that young people’s usage of computers and mobile phones can have a negative impact on their reading and writing skills. In this essay I am going to discuss this controversial statement.
In my opinion, writing skills can be refined by means of mobile phones. Young people spend enormous time chatting with peers. While doing this, they tend to improve their literacy. Owing to the feeling of embarrassment in case of committing writitng mistakes, young generation can check themselves in internet and rectify their own mistakes. I know that from my own experience, communication in internet was very useful for my literacy. Moreover, I think that by means of chatting young people can also boost the coherence and cohesion of their language.
Talking about the reading skills, I would rather agree that mobile phones and computers have contributed to the their deterioration. Several centuries ago young people dedicated more time to reading books than nowadays. Now people can acquire everything they need in internet and therefore they prefer it to paper books. I can also verify it from my own knowledge. The majority of my friends do not read at all, other people read no more than five books per year. It is a very dissapointing tendecy, because books provide us with knowledge, which cannot be substituted for the other resources.
All things considered, I think that contemporary gadgets have neither good nor bad impact on young people. Writing skills may benefit from the usage of mobile phones, while reading skills may deteriorate.
