The diagram demonstrates an operation related to the system for how consumer leather products are manufactured. This process can be divided up to three main stages, such as preparation of raw material, processing a ready-for-used skin and completion of the end products for retail.
Overall, it is clear that the operation comprises eleven steps which can be grouped into 3 important steps highlighted above.
The process commences with the animal skin being dried in the open air and that transported by truck to a factory where it is washed in a lime solution. Next, the washed skin is soaked in lime before being flattened in a specialized machine.
In the remaining stages, the flattened skinis soaked again, however, concurrently in Tannin which is a solution of water and vegetable matter. Following the soaking, the skin is polished by means of a roller. It is then where loaded by truck to a factory where it is assembled into finished leather goods such as shoes, handbags and sporting equipments.
