It can be clearly seen that USA has spent the most out of the five countries with GDP exceeding 2% in all three given years. The highest spending is noted for USA at 2001 with 2.6%. Both China and Spain have steadily increased their spending on research and development over the years. China and Spain have started below 1% at 2001 and culminated exceeding 1% in 2011.
France and UK have fluctuation on investments in the gross spending over the decade. Nonetheless, France has spent above 2% GDP for the entire 10 years of period. The lowest percentage of spending has been seen in Spain at the year of 2001.
In conclusion, all the five countries have increased their spending on research and development over the decade.
