The table illustrates the top ten countries with largest population, measured by million people, in 2019 and the expected development in 2100.
Overall, there will be numerous changes by 2100, especially the prevalance of three countries: Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Congo.
In 2019, China ranked first (1,439 million), followed by India with a marginally lower number (1,380 million). The gap between these countries and the rest was apparent, as other population is reported to be under 331 million people. Bangladesh, Russia, and Mexico shared a quite similar level, while the number of Bangladesh was the highest amongst them.
Looking forward to 2100, significant developments are projected. While India and China will still remain at the top, India will experience an upward trend and vice versa. Nigeria will climb to the third place, comprising 730 million people. While Pakistan rank will remain unchanged, the USA, Indonesia and Brazil population is forecast to decline, especially for Brazil in which the figure will decrease two times. Congo, Ethiopia and Tanzania will surprisingly increase and stay in the top-ten by 2100, ranking sixth, eighth and nineth respectively.
