The two maps illustrate the evolution of the Olympic and Paralympic Village from the year 2000 to the present day.
Overall, the village has undergone significant transformations, marked by the introduction of additional facilities and a reconfiguration of the road infrastructure.
In the year 2000, the Olympic and Paralympic Village featured a somewhat irregular road layout. Notably, the western area consisted of a car park and a leisure centre adjacent to a water centre. Towards the eastern section, there were two separate athlete accommodation blocks as well as a fitness centre located in the north-west. A vacant building was situated adjacent to another car park, signifying the limited facilities available at that time.
In contrast, today’s village is characterized by a grid-patterned road system, enhancing accessibility across the area. The current layout includes multiple car parks and a new welcome centre, which amalgamates the media centre previously situated there. Other contemporary additions encompass a village square and a dedicated disabled accommodation alongside the existing athlete accommodation, indicating a notable enhancement in support for all athletes. Furthermore, the previously vacant building has been repurposed into a medical facility, while the multi-faith centre has been established in the former parking area, illustrating a comprehensive development aimed at fostering inclusivity and well-being within the village.
