The graph illustrates the use of car, as mode of transportation toward the city centre by the residents and non-residents of the city from year 1996 to 2005.
Overall, the use of car journeys into the city centre by the residents has linearly declined from 1996 to 2005; and remained same for the non-residents with the fluctuations in between. Despite of decrease the number of residential journeys is more compared to non-residents
In the initial years, from 1996 to 1999 the journeys of residential people towards city centre was quite high, with nearly 10000 rides per day. After the introduction of parking meters into city centre there was sudden reduction in the journeys to 5000 rides per day. This trend continued till 2002 and again the number slightly decreased by 1000, after Westgate Street and Park lanes were closed due to traffic.
Looking toward the non-residents journey report, it inclined from 1996 to 1999 from 5000 to nearly 8000 rides per day. The journeys cease near to 8000 rides per day after the introduction of parking meters i.e. from 1999 to 2002 and again fall to around 4000 rides from 2003 till 2005.
Non-residents journey were more than the residents between the period of parking light introduction till shut down of Westgate Street and park lane.
