Some people believe that schools should not only teach academic subjects such as science and math, but rather teach life skills to students. In my opinion, I agree that schools should be teaching life skills because many schools around the globe equip students with technical skills but lack in opportunities to teach some life skills.
For example, saving money is a salient life skill and many pupils don’t know how to save efficiently. This can lead to serious underlying issues when it comes to finances. There are various methods of saving money and I believe that school should incoporate programs and organise activities for students to gain nesscary knowledge to save money. For example, a student may want to buy a snack, but they have spent all of their money for lunch. However, if students are thought how to spend wisely and smartly, they will have the necessary funds to pruchase a snack.
On the other hand, teaching academic subjects is important too because if students lack in academic knowledge they will not be able to progress and puruse tertiary education and securing employment in the future. Furthermore, schools may think that investing in teaching life skills can be a waste of time and resource. With all the academic subjects that students need to learn, adding lessons about life skills might potentially pressurise students because of increase work load.
In conclusion, teaching academic subjects is paramount as many schools do, but I believe that life skills should be thought. Schools should be able to accomodate students and offer lessons. By doing this, students are not only knowldgeable academically, but equipped with life skills that will allow them to survive adroitly in this world.
