Nowadays, the way we communicate, the health care systems and the means of transport are dependent on technology and computers. Therefore, some argue that relying too much on them has led us to a dangerous path. This essay agrees with this view because people don’t know how to live withouth technology and because computers can make mistakes.
Firstly, it is clear that human beings are totally dependent on technology and that they cannot do without it. Consequently, when something happens and we are not able to access our computers, we don’t know how to deal with the situation and everything falls into chaos. For example, some hackers have lately been targeting hospitals in Italy, blocking access to computers and asking for rewards to gain it back; in these situations hospitals have not been able to function properly for days.
Furthermore, technology is not perfect. On the contrary, there are several things that need to be implemented. For example, self-driving cars have proven to be responsible for a higher rate of accidents than human-drived vehicles. Moreover, we often rely on emails and electronic devices to communicate for work and business reasons, but computers often do not deliver the messages properly, leading to delays and misunderstandings. For instance, last week I was expeting an important email from my boss, which never arrived not beacuse it wasn’t sent, but because it wasn’t delivered to my mailbox; as a result, I missed an essential information and we lost a client.
To conclude, humankind relies too much on technology, even though there is clear evidence that this is unadvaisable both because we don’t know what to do when we’re not assisted by it and because computers are not as perfect as we think.
