Nowadays, with the boom of the internet and heavy infrastructure, goods have started to sell on the web and in large stores. It has become impossible for local shop owners to even stand a chance against this development. In this essay we will discuss how it has affected local communities and also present practical solutions to the issue.

The reason why online business and large superstores are in demand is because they don’t need to pay for a physical store and they sell products cheaply respectively. This has affected the loss of business of local shop owners. Because shop owners can not meet the price of these stores, they are forcibly inclined to shut down their business. In addition to this, it has also resulted in the death of the spirit of entrepreneurship among small communities. When people see that they can make more by working in large supermarkets, they will eventually stop making efforts in starting their business.

In order to improve the situation of local shops, certain steps should be taken in order to make sure that they remain functioning. There should be a limit on the sales through online shops. As online shop owners can sell products with high margins of profit, they can restrict the number of sales they can have in a week or month. This will help the local shop owners by having some physical traffic in their shops. Moreover, large supermarkets should not be allowed to operate on weekends. As a result of this, local owners can remain open on weekends when the customer traffic is highest.

To conclude, online business and large markets affect local shops by forcing them to close their shops and by ending the spirit of entrepreneurship in people. This can be solved by restricting the sales and days of online stores and large supermarkets respectively.
