The presented table compares the difference in number of visits in millions by international tourists in 9 countries in the years 2008 and 2009.
Overall, it is observed that all the countries saw an increase in the number of overseas travellers with the exception of France and Hong Kong where they experienced no change and a decrease in the number of travellers, respectively.
As can be observed from the table, France, the USA, Spain, the UK, and Italy attracted the most number of tourists, all of them having over 44 million tourists in both years. The number of international visitors to France remained the same, whereas the other countries all saw a climb in the numbers. Of the five, the UK experienced the greatest increase in tourists with a percentage change of 3.6% in 2010 compared to the previous year. The remaining three countries each saw a change of less than 2.5%.
Coming over toTurkey, China, Germany, and Hong Kong, it is apparent that there were substantial changes in the number of international visits to all these countries. In Germany, there was a staggering positive change of over a 100 percent between 2009 and 2010. However, it is worth noting that the actual number of tourists is less when compared to other countries (10 million in 2009 and 24 million in 2010). The only country with a decrease in visitors from overseas was Hong Kong, experiencing a decrease of 1 million international arrivals in 2010 as compared to 2009.
