The table provides information about the number of foreign tourists visiting nine different countries in 2009 and 2010, as well as showing the percentage changes.
Overall, the tourist numbers increased in the majority of countries studied. France was the country welcoming by far the highest number of visitors, although its figures didn’t change. Notably, it was Germany that demonstrated the most significant proportional change, while Hong Kong was the only country to have witnessed a decline in figures.
In the first five countries, percentage changes were either negligible or non-existent. The country with the zero change was France, with the figures standing at 76 million in both years, maintaining clear dominance. In the US, Spain and Italy, the tourist numbers rose by exactly one million in 2010, reaching 67, 56 and 45 million respectively and changing by 1.5, 1.8 and 2.3 percent. In the UK, meanwhile, the figure rose by 2 million or by 3.6% to 57 million in the latter year.
The remaining countries, by contrast, witnessed more substantial percentage changes. Notable among them was Germany, where the numbers doubled from 11 to 23 million, amounting to a staggering 109% change. China and Turkey trailed behind with 55 and 33 percent change, both attracting 12 million more tourists in 2010, at 34 and 45 million respectively. Hong Kong, however, was the country, where the figure fell marginally from 10 to 9 million over the period, resulting in a negative 11% difference.
