The line chart illustrates how much paper, wood pulp, and sawn-wood were produced in million tonnes in the United Kingdom between 1980 and 2000.
Overall, while the production level of sawn-wood witnessed a considerable decrease, the figure for wood pulp remained almost unchanged. It is also clear that the number of paper and packaging produced remained consistently the highest throughout the period.
The amount of paper and packaging produced in 1980 started at just under 250 million tonnes, after which it rose slightly before surging to reach a peak of just over 350 million tonnes by the end of the period.
The production level of sawn-wood was lower than that of paper and packaging in 1980, at 200 million tonnes. Subsequently, this number decreased significantly to about 140 million tonnes in the next 20 years. The amount of wood pulp produced in 1980 was the lowest in the first year examined, at about 170 million tonnes. This figure then hovered around this mark until the end of the period. It is important to note that the level of wood pulp production surpassed that of sawn-wood from 1990 onwards.
