The chart illustrates the number of shops in a particular country that closed and opened during 2011 and 2018.
Overall, the number of new shops experienced a steady decline, while closures, on the other hand, showed fluctuation. At the beginning of 2011, the openings reached almost their peak, which is 9,000; however, the peak did not remain for a long time, it immediately showed decline, and in 2012, the number of shops was approximately 4000. From 2012 to 2014, the graph shows dramatic increase of openings, which was just over 6,000. Then we can see that it falls back, showing some fluctuations throughout the time at the end it sticks in the point of around 3,000 in 2018.
Closures on the other hand were just over 6,000 at the beginning; after that, it reached its highest peak, which is around 7,000. Furthermore, we can see that shops that were being closed reached almost the lowest point in the graph, which is lower than 1,000. After a dramatic increase and some fluctuations, the result shows more than 5,000 shops in 2018.
