Overall, there is a significant increase in commuting times for workers in Sydney, Perth, and Brisbane, while Adelaide’s figure fluctuated over the eight years. Moreover, the statistics for Sydney were reported to be the longest commute times, whereas Adelaide experienced the shortest.
Workers in Sydney spent 35 minutes going to work each day in 2002. The figure for Sydney rose slightly to nearly 37 minutes in 2004 then saw a noticeable rise to about 40 minutes in 2008. However, this figure declined to around 38 percent in 2008. That was a similar trend for Brisbane’s data, starting around 27 percent in 2002, followed by dramatic growth then reaching its peak at about 36 minutes in 2008 before falling to under 34 minutes in the last period.
The statistics for Perth maintained a steady commuting time of approximately 26 minutes from 2002 to 2008 then considerably rose to about 36 minutes in 2010. In contrast, Adelaide’s figure saw the shortest commute durations, beginning at under 25 minutes in the first period, continuing to increase to its peak at around 28 minutes in 2006 before decreasing to about 24 minutes in 2010
