Overall, a downward trend was observed regarding the registration of motorcycles and lorries, while the opposite was true for the remaining categories, with the exception of bus, coach, and taxi, which remained stable. In addition, private cars were the most registered type of vehicle in the surveyed period.
In 1996, private automobiles led the figure with 19 million registrations, nearly twentyfold higher than the figures for motorcycles and other methods of transportation, which were around 1 million. This was followed by 0.5 million registered lorries, and 0.1 million registered buses, coaches, and taxis.
A decade later, a significant surge of 58,33% was recorded in the number of registrations for other vehicles. Similarly, the figure for private cars also underwent growth, albeit to a lesser degree, climbing up to an all-time high of 24 million registered automobiles. Meanwhile, the number of registered motorcycles and lorries suffered from remarkable decline of 40% and 20% and concluded the period at 0.6 million and 0.4 million, respectively. Finally, registrations for buses, coaches and taxis saw no fluctuations, staying at 0.1 million vehicles.
