The following maps show two different construction designs of underground tunnels in two selected cities in Australia.
In general, comparing between two different tunnel system, we can easily recognize the main differences in the time and budget spent on construction proccess, location selected to build the tunnels, and the design of the tunnels.
First city has a tunnel that took 12 years for finishing the construction started from 1986 to 1998, while the second city has a fast-built tunnel with only 4 years time spent to build it, started from 2002 and finished in 2006.
Other noticeable difference between the two city’s tunnels is the budget allocated to the project. First city allocated $555 million, near a half of the other city’s spending, which paid $1,1 billion. In addition, first city tunnel built underground contains sand and located under the bridge, the other one built underground contains stone and clay and placed under the mainroad in downtown. in spite of that, first tunnel was built in curve shape with 1.5 metres wide and 2.2. kilometres long, which can be passed by two cars, while the second tunnel was built in straight contour road with 2.5 metres wide and 3.6 kilometres long, which can accommodate three cars in one way.
