The maps demonstrate the changes of a zoo’s layout in Australia between 1960 and now.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is clear that the zoo experienced a significant modernization. Most noticeably, the arrangement of animal positions, the elimination of bird’s aviary and chimpanzee areas and the introduction of cable cars connecting the two sides of the zoo are evident.
As observed, in the north side, a space between bird’s aviary and seal show was replaced by an entrance and a harbour was also moved to the top left-hand corner. Besides, while the bird section and chimpanzees were close to one another, the seal show section is currently placed in the middle of the island.
Furthermore, whereas an African animals cage was reduced in size and moved to the left of the seal show, the current place is used for a wild animals area. The Australian animals cage, a path and picnic area remained unchanged during the remarkable development. Additionally, a cable car has been erected to the left of the picnic area.
