The diagrams display the life stages of the silkworm and the procedure of making silk cloths.
Overall, silkworms should stay in the cocoons for days before they transform into moths and continue the life cycle. In addition, the silk industry only values the cocoons rather than silkworms themselves. By obtaining the cocoons, people are able to produce silk products such as silk clothes.
Before silkworms turning into moths, their lives are highly relied on mulberry leaves as they are served as both silkworms’ food and habitat. After 4 to 6 weeks of growing, silkworms would produce silk threads to build their cocoons in which they are going to live for the next 16 days. After this, they become moths and lay eggs to start the new generation.
To make silk clothes, we first have to boil the cocoons and unwind them into 300 to 900 meters threads. Then, we twist different threads together and weave them into clothes afterwards. Ultimately, people could dye the cloths into any color they like.
