The bar chart illustrates the proportion of water stored in the reservoirs of six Australian cities in October 2009 and October 2010.
Overall, it is clear that while most cities experienced an increase in water levels over the period, Darwin and Brisbane showed a slight decline or almost no change. Canberra had the highest water levels by 2010, whereas Melbourne remained the lowest among all the cities.
In detail, Canberra saw a significant rise in water levels, from approximately 75% to slightly below 100% by October 2010, making the most dramatic improvement. Perth also recorded an increase, with its reservoirs rising from 40% to around 60%. Similarly, Melbourne witnessed growth in water storage, climbing from 25% to slightly below 40%.
Conversely, around 45% of water levels of were recorded in Darwin, but this figure dropped to just under 40% by October 2010. At the same time, the proportion of Sydney water levels rose by about 5% in total. Despite these changes, Brisbane remained relatively stable with approximately 55%
