As people grow older, their body becomes weak, and they are unable to perform work in order to make their living. In some countries senior citizens are assisted by governments, while in other countries families support them in term of finances. This essay will discuss both views and I will provide my opinion at the end.
Government assisting elderly people for finance is great because families might not earn enough to take care of elderly citizens. Some families are not financially capable of taking care of retired, unemployed or disabled citizens. They barely are able to make their own living. In such case, government assisting them will be of great help to those people with such difficulties.
However, in some countries government does not assist financially to these people, and families provide the support. This can also be a great approach as the money of tax payers is not used for supporting other person. Their families have to take care of them. In this way, people can spend some time with elderly and disabled member of their family; this can be great approach towards good mental health and communication between family members.
In my opinion, government needs to assists these people rather than their families because some families might not be financially strong to support them. In conclusion, retired, unemployed and disabled people are also the citizens of a country, so they need to be taken care by either family or government.
