Overall, private cars were the top choice of the English all over the surveyed period while the least preferred was recreational vehicles. Additionally, although there was an increase in private cars, lorries and other vehicles experienced downward trend as well as both public transport and recreational ones oscillated.
In 1965, 40% of private cars were utilized whereas merely 15% recreational vehicles were in usage. The proportions of public transport and lorries and unspecified vehicles were nearly the same with 23% and 20% respectively. After two decades, despite the moderate decline between 5 and 10% in public transport and recreational vehicles, a considerable growth of 15% was witnessed in private cars and no change was recorded in lorries and different types.
The year 2005 observed a climb between 2 and 5% in all of vehicles except for lorries and different types with 10%. The figure for private cars were 60% approximately tripling that for public transport at 22%. The recreational vehicles was the least common choice with only 8%.
