Band 8+: Some people say that we do not need printed paper newspapers. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Technological advancements have significantly transformed the manner in which individuals access an overwhelming amount of global information, encompassing social, political, economic, financial, and even sports news. In particular, an increasing number of individuals prefer to utilize online news platforms instead of paying for traditional printed newspapers. The advent of digital media has led to a more convenient means of obtaining news compared to the antiquated printed formats. Personally, I tend to align with the perspectives of those advocating for the discontinuation of printed newspapers, and I will elaborate on my position in the following paragraphs.

It is undeniable that electronic devices have provided users with more comprehensive access to diverse genres of global news. Consequently, numerous government and social e-news platforms have emerged, allowing individuals free access to an array of news resources at the click of a button. Furthermore, online news outlets consistently publish up-to-date information at rapid intervals, enabling consumers to remain informed about global developments in real-time.

Nonetheless, the manner in which individuals engage with news online may lead to exposure to misleading or fraudulent information, as well as sensationalized narratives that provoke public outcry. For example, many young individuals have been incited to take action regarding governmental or local issues due to the influence of anonymous online figures disseminating distorted news. Moreover, excessive time spent consuming online news can have detrimental effects on one’s eyesight, primarily due to the blue light emitted by electronic screens, which poses a greater risk compared to traditional printed materials.

In conclusion, while traditional newspapers may face significant challenges in the face of a digital era marked by innovative news consumption, they continue to hold a crucial role in our daily lives. Nevertheless, the shift towards electronic news is likely to persist, and as consumers become increasingly reliant on digital platforms for information, the relevance of printed newspapers may continue to diminish.
