The pie graphs illustrate the results of a poll about children’s activities, dividing them into boys and girls.
Overall, it can be seen that the biggest differences between the genders were in sports. Boys preferred basketball, soccer and skateboarding, but girls preferred dancing, gymnastics and netball. By contrast, listening to music showed no difference between the two groups.
Looking first at the data for boys, it is clear that the most popular activity was computer games, at 34%. At the other extreme, the activity with the smallest share was reading, accounting for only 2%. Listening to music and skateboarding were similar. Both activities made up around 10% of the total.
Turning to the data for girls, the most common choice was dancing, accounting for 26%. The least common activity was listening to music, with only 10%. Despite the strong interest in dancing, a similar level of engagement was observed in reading, accounting for 21%.
