The two line graphs illustrate how many train passengers there were between 2000 and 2009 and the proportion of trains running on schedule. Overall, the number of train commuters experienced significant growth throughout the period despite fluctuations over the years. Meanwhile, the percentage of trains running punctually showed an increase in the first five years, followed by a rapid decrease before surging back and remaining unchanged by 2009.
In terms of train passengers, in 2000, the number started at 37 billion travelers and then it witnessed considerable growth, reaching its highest point of approximately 48 billion passengers in 2005 despite having a small decline in 2003. However, the number of train users dropped back to 40 billion in 2006 before increasing and peaking around 45 billion passengers by 2009.
On the other hand, there was 92% of trains running on schedule in 2000. The percentage then showed a drastic increase, reaching 96% in 2004 which exceeded the initial target of 95%. Nevertheless, after the year 2004, the proportion of trains maintaining punctuality experienced a drop, dominating the lowest percentage of 92% in 2006. Then it soared to 97% in 2008, remaining relatively stable until 2009.
