In many countries, summer holidays last for two months or more for primary and secondary schools. This long period of rest has many values, but many people think that it also has some disadvantages.
To start with, countries that choose to extend the period of holidays for children take many factors into consideration. First, it is important for younger ones to do activities other than educational tasks like practicing sports or travelling in places where they can play and enjoy their time, it will help them to relieve all the stress they accumulated during the school year. Therefore, it will be easier for them to focus more next year. Hot weather also plays a role on this decision. For instance, in countries like Algeria where hot days start very early, even before summer, pupils find it difficult to go to school in this condition.
However, this decision can be seen as a problem for some people. To mention an example, in some cases it is hard for teachers to finish the program they were given because they are obliged to end it on time. Also, when children rest and play for too long, they can be disconnected from studies and can forget many important information. When they return to classes, they will realise that they were focused on playing for a long period. As a result of this situation, they will find themselves trying to memorize old courses instead of learning new facts leading them to waste a huge time.
In conclusion, even though long period holidays have a lot of benefits, some people find some inconveniences to this situation.
