The first chart shows the number of people in the UK travelling abroad. In 1979 this figure was around 15 million, and 5 years later this figure reached 20 million, thus increasing significantly every 5 years.Last year, 1999, overseas trips exceeded 50 million. Foreign visitors to the UK have not increased significantly, from around 15 million in 1979 to almost 30 million 20 years later in 1999.
Now the second chart shows the countries that UK residents visited the most in 1999. First came France, with around 12 million people visiting in 1999, followed by Spain with around 9 million people.The average number of people visiting the United States is 4 million, while Greece and Turkey are not as popular as other countries. Greece has 4 million visitors, while Turkey has up to 3 million.
