The two pie charts illustrate how Australian households use energy and the greenhouse gas emissions. Overall, heating is the most significant contributor to energy and water heating and other appliances for gas emissions and cooling and lighting are the least contributors on both charts.
As regards the use of energy, heating is in the first place, with 42%, followed by water heating with 30% and other appliances are next with 15%. Australian households do not use much energy for refrigeration, cooling and lighting(7%, 2%, 4% respectively).
As for gas emissions, water heating and other appliances are responsible for 60% of them (water heating 32%, other appliances 28%). Heating and refrigeration produce almost the same emissions with 15% and 14% respectively, while lighting(8%) and cooling(3%) are again in the last place.
