The two charts show how energy is used in an average Australian home and how much greenhouse gas is produced from this energy use.
In general, heating uses the most energy, while water heating creates the most greenhouse gas. Also, some activities like appliances and refrigeration produce more emissions compared to the amount of energy they use.
Looking at the first chart, heating makes up the largest part of energy use at 42%. Water heating is the second biggest at 30%. Appliances use 15%, while refrigeration accounts for 7%. Lighting is 4%, and cooling is the smallest at only 2%.
However, the situation is different in the second chart. Water heating is the largest source of emissions at 32%. Appliances are also high, producing 28% of gases, which is almost twice their share of energy use. Refrigeration is responsible for 14% of emissions, while lighting makes 8% and cooling 3%. Heating, which was the biggest in energy use, is only 15% of greenhouse gases.
In conclusion, heating takes the most energy in Australian homes, but water heating, appliances, and refrigeration are the biggest causes of greenhouse gas emissions
