There is a debate regarding whether adolescents should adhere to the guidelines set by older individuals or challenge their authority. In my view, while some argue that younger individuals should question the advice of their elders, I believe that it is important for them to heed their wisdom and experience. This essay will explore both viewpoints and offer reasons for my opinion.
On one hand, proponents of the idea that teenagers should challenge older people’s rules argue that young individuals are often driven by emotions when making decisions. As they mature, they become more practical and base their decisions on rationality. For instance, when I was a child, I insisted on purchasing a PlayStation 4 despite my parents’ objections, only to realize soon after that it was not worth the investment. This example illustrates how emotional decision-making can lead to regrettable outcomes.
On the other hand, it is undeniable that younger generations are often more technologically adept than their elders, and that traditional norms may not always be relevant in today’s rapidly evolving world. For instance, the traditional method of using pen and paper for studying, favored by many older generations, may now be considered inefficient compared to modern computer-based learning methods. This demonstrates how the older generation’s rules and norms may not always be best suited for the current era.
In conclusion, while it is true that the older generation’s experience and wisdom are valuable, modern advancements and changing societal norms make it challenging for young people to blindly adhere to their elders’ rules. Nevertheless, considering the valuable experiences and knowledge that older individuals possess, I believe it is generally beneficial for young individuals to respect and follow their guidance.
