The two maps illustrate the transformation of Dalton town between 1815 and 2015. Overall, the town has become more diverse and visitor-friendly with the introduction of a range of new facilities. It is also clear that both sides – east and west – experienced the majority of the changes.
Focusing on 1815 plan, in the west, there was a Dalton forest and a ford in the river to access the city. In the heart of the map, there was a hall. Hall farm, featuring some cows and horses, was located in the south near the river of Dalton with few houses. In the north, there were also a number of houses compared to the south, and on the west side of the houses, there was half of the Dalton forest.
In 2015, Dalton has experienced significant changes. Dalton forest madegave way for a hospital and residential area. Also, where hall farm and a few houses stood, there was in 2015 a school and hotel surrounded by a lot of apartments. Final alteration was the construction of a bridge which connected the industrial zone and airport across the river.
