In this modern age, people are more likely to have an unhealthy lifestyle due to the effect of overworking and missing meals in the competitive atmosphere of workplaces. This can lead to the increased potential to have various kinds of diseases. It is widely known that proper treatments and reliable research are essential in curing diseases. However, the most important thing is prevention of the disease. I absolutely agree with the fact that prevention of the disease is more effective than treating and researching it.
Firstly, in this 21st century, researching and finding out the result in a laboratory needs a vast investment of time and country’s budget. Besides, some errors can happen, causing unnecessary costs and misunderstandings. Then, scientists might even miss the concept and main idea relating to the nature of the disease because of those accidental mistakes in their research. Therefore, spending much time and money on research does not necessarily mean that it can result in an effective and sustainable method in providing a treatment of a disease. Although a massive investment is necessary for research, it might still be ineffective and useless in treating diseases.
Secondly, governments, scientists and the individuals of a country should emphasize on preventative procedures, which can be performed in the individuals’ own ways, rather than research and treatment processes . Preventative measures play an essential role in creating a healthy and prosperous nation. There are numerous diseases that can solely be prevented such as hepatitis B virus. For instance, people can eliminate the risk of having hepatitis B virus by a vaccine, which is a kind of preventative method. However, as a result of a decline in providing health education and any other factors such as financial situations of the individuals, people are suffering from hepatitis B virus. When realizing that they have that disease, they become frustrated and depressed. Moreover, the late recognition of the disease can even lead to death despite various treatments. In addition, unlike research and treating the disease, which can only be performed by professionals, almost everyone can do easy and less costly prevention procedures.
In conclusion, I totally agree with the statement “prevention is better than cure” due to the likelihood of resulting in costly and ineffective research and treatment and the readiness of safe and preventive
measures that most individuals can do in their own ways.
