Band 6: In many places, people's lifestyles are changing rapidly, and this affects family relationships. Do the advantages of this trend outweigh the disadvantages? (User-Written IELTS Writing Task 2 Essay)

In recent years, individuals lifestyles are altering significantly. Some argue that it has an impact on family bond. While the shifting in people’s lifestyle due to adapting technology in their daily life could weakening the rapport of family members, using it for communication will exceed its limitation.

On one hand, nowadays, people is integrating their life more and more with technology such as mobile phone and social media. These development makes connection between family members easier that leads to increase the bond between family members. Video call feature which comes with mobile phone can link parents to childrens that have moved out from the house. For instance, grandparents which usually live far away from their family could easily call and having conversation with their grandchildren whenever they want. In addition, social media helps people to always be connect and keep in contact with their kin, lessening misunderstanding between family. For example, individuals does not need to calls to know any update in their family’s life.

On the other hand, some believe that technology could deterring the family bond in real life. Communication via technology such as zoom, video call, can lead to rare visitation or big family gatherings. People think that video calling their family is enough rather than spending a lot of time and effort to come and visit or having a family gathering is such a bother. Another limitation is extensively using technology could bring about decreasing bonding experience of family members. In the past family members will have breakfast or dinner together and talk to each other bring about better bonding experience, but now because of mobile phone and social media, people are focusing more on their phone than having a conversation between each other.

Even though using technology in individuals daily life could resulting in scarce visitation and family gatherings, communication usage of the technology like video call features and internet are bringing a far-reaching impact on tightening the bond of family members. Thus I believe that the positive impact are far more significant than the negative one.
