The given picture illustrates the way in which a town named Willington from 1780 to 2000. Looking at the illustration, is it immediately evident that some old features were still there, whereas others such as homes, woods, road, village.
In 1780, Willington was a small rural settlement with only 100 homes located near a river. Four farms the central area, while woodland was found to the east. Apart from these features, there were no roads or public buildings.
By 1860, the town had doubled in size to 200 homes. A bridge had been built across the river, and a road appeared in the northern part of the map. Some farms remained. Woodland still existed in the east but appeared to be slightly reduced.
In 2000, Willington had expanded further to 500 homes. Additional infrastructure was constructed, including shops, a school, and a sports field in the southern part of the town. A wetland area for birds was created near the riverbank, replacing some open space. Farms had almost disappeared by this time, indicating a shift from agriculture to residential and community use.
